A Brief Introduction
Carol was born on November 13, 1926 in Seattle,
Washington, to John and Lulu Newman. She was raised in Seattle. During the
depression, her father, John, moved east to find work. Her mother had contracted
sleeping sickness while Carol was a young woman. She spent her early life caring
for her mother with her younger brother Jim and was raised by her grandfather,
Mark Requa. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Seattle and worked at
Seattle First National Bank in collection.
At the age of 19, she married Louis Lowther and eventually had four children:
Mike, Pat, Marquette and Kevin.
She was very active in church, and always found one to attend wherever life took
her.
She served in the kitchen, teaching in Sunday School and youth clubs, missions
committee, church clerk, singing in the choir and even playing the piano.
Although she was never a fast reader, she was a master letter-writer and wrote
many handwritten letters to missionaries, friends, family and many others. Those
that knew her almost immediately remember her letters.
After struggling for years with Alzheimer’s disease, she went to Heaven on
Sunday, March 18, 2007 just a few yards away from her husband, Louis. They were
married 61 years. She was a dear saint of the Lord and will be missed by all.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Louis, her children, Michael (Lois),
Pat, Marquette and Kevin (June), her grandchildren Michael, David and Chris, her
brother Jim (Ramona) and many nieces and nephews who are all grateful for her
love, nurturing and commitment to family. She will be deeply missed.
